Additional Details
This volume begins with 4 early 17th-century Spanish news bulletins--the first two being scarce accounts of the dramatic 1624 power struggle between New Spain's archbishop and viceroy, which resulted in a popular uprising against the viceroy. These are followed by a wide variety of publications, including 7 Mexican imprints (and one Guatemalan imprint) from 1685 to 1743. Highlights include the important "Ordenanzas, preceptos y direcciones, con que el señor Obispo de Michoacán previene los curas beneficiados" from 1685; the scarce 1685 "Discurso juridico por la arte de la plateria" on silversmiths; and the virtually unknown "Carta gratulatoria de la Real Universidad de Mexico al excelentissimo Señor Dr. D. Diego Ladron de Guevara, Obispo de Quito" from 1712. In full:
"Relacion sumaria y puntual del tumulto y sedicion que huvo en Mexico a los 15 de enero de 624." 18 leaves; closed tears and failed early repairs to first two leaves. A Spanish news bulletin on the 1624 tumult in Mexico. One in OCLC, and none traced at auction since 1981. [Madrid?, 1624].
"Memorial de lo sucedido en la ciudad de Mexico." 28 leaves; 4 minor early paper repairs. Another news bulletin on the 1624 tumult. One of 2 editions (the other having 25 pages). None traced at auction since 1931. Palau 161753; Sabin 47628. [Madrid?, 1624].
"Nueva y verdadera relacion de un lastimoso caso." [4] pages; 2 small early paper repairs. News sheet on a scandal involving a slave in the Spanish city of Ecija. One in OCLC. Cordova, Spain, 1626.
"Relacion de la grande ruyna que ha hecho el rio Guadalquivir en Sevilla." [4] pages. Spanish news sheet on a recent flood. Seville, 1618.

An influential set of new regulations for the religious life of Michoacán set forth by their new bishop; he later served as Archbishop of Mexico and Viceroy of New Spain. Leaves 23 to 28 relate to the Indians, obligating them to attend mass and prohibiting the worship of other gods, but also specifically exempting them from the Inquisition for certain offenses (leaf 25). Medina, Mexico 1352. One example in OCLC. Mexico: Juan Ribera, 1685.
