Additional Details

The title translates to "Teachings about Christianity in Mexican" (i.e. Nahuatl). Almost entirely in Nahuatl aside from some headings and titles of prayers. Contains not only essential Catholic prayers such as the Apostle's Creed and Our Father, but also basic guidelines for behavior during church services. The catechism tells the reader, for example, what to do when entering a church and how to use holy water. Some of the many answered questions include "What is meant by the term 'the Holy Roman Catholic Church'?" "Who are the angels?" and "When Jesus died on the cross, did he die as a god or a man?"--likely reflecting the questions which friars actually received from their Nahua parishioners. A resource not only for understanding how Christianity was taught in Nahuatl, but also for seeing how the Nahuas themselves comprehended Christianity.
