Additional Details

Bishop Gomez de Parada had investigated the Franciscan priest Clemente de Arellano for alleged gambling by the friars in his parish. This is Arellano's response, protesting the bishop's jurisdiction. The case is discussed at length in José Refugio de la Torre Curiel's "Vicarios en entredicho: crisis y desestructuración de la provincia franciscana de Santiago de Xalisco" (Michoacan, 2001), page 124.
