Additional Details

This substantial collection relates to the Mexican Revolution and the related border war interventions of the United States Army. A few of the postcards are dated 1911; most are captioned in the negative. They show ruined buildings, military encampments, injured soldiers, and corpses on both sides of the U.S.-Mexican border and in Veracruz. Among the individuals identified are American generals Frederick Funston and Tasker Bliss. Photographers include D.W. Hoffman of El Paso, W.H. Horne of El Paso, and Hadsell of Veracruz; most are unidentified. In addition to the postcards are a small group of period photographs, most unmounted, with a wider-ranging focus. Dates range from 1908 to 1913; one depicts a group of marching Buffalo Soldiers, and another apparently depicts American Indians in uniform.
