Additional Details

A scarce map by a Mercedarian friar from Querétaro. It depicts the heart of Mexico: Zacatecas to the north, Guadalajara and the pacific to the west, Oaxaca, Veracruz and the Gulf of Mexico to the east, and the metropolises of Mexico and Puebla at center. Rivers, mountains, and roads are shown. Convents and hospitals are represented by small icons, as well as the college in Mexico City. The cartouche depicts five friars working with a globe and sextant. No other original examples of this map have been traced at auction or in OCLC, although the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia holds a reproduction.
