Additional Details

The Presidio de San Carlos was located in Chihuahua, Mexico, what is now immediately across the border from Big Bend National Park in Texas. The remote location in the desert at the northern reaches of Mexican settlement made construction and supply of the presidio challenging. Their central responsibility--patrolling the mountainous region on horseback to prevent Indian incursions--was perilous at best. This packet includes financial accounts for the presidio's construction, clothing, and treatment of invalid soldiers who were shipped out to Chihuahua for treatment. The documents are signed by numerous parties including commanders Marques del Valle de la Colina and Benito Ochoa.
