(MEXICO.) Zapata, Emiliano. Circular letter to Mexico's revolutionary leaders in the wake of the Convention of Aguascaliente. Partly-printed Letter Signed, 13 1/4 x 8 1/2 inches; 4 stitch holes in upper margin, folds, minor wear. Cuernavaca, Mexico, 3 November 1914

Additional Details

Zapata's forces had taken Cuernavaca after a long siege in August 1914, and he would move the seat of his revolutionary government there in January 1915. The Mexican Revolution had succeeded in ousting President Huerta, but its four factions remained divided. This circular letter was sent to those revolutionary figures who accepted the conditions of the Convention of Aguascaliente (essentially the followers of Villa and Zapata, but not Carranza or Obregon), inviting them to attend another convention to determine the path forward--a convention to "defenderse nuestros ideales en el debate que se entable con los demás grupos armados de la Nación" (defend our ideals in our debate with the other armed groups of the Nation).
