Additional Details

The life of the Father Salvatierra, Jesuit founder of the first mission in Baja California in 1697, and founder of the Pious Fund of the Californias. In 1717, he was ordered to México City to help write a history of the Californias, but died en route. Only one previous copy found at auction, Sotheby's London sale, 4 June 1998, lot 451--apparently this copy.
