Additional Details

"The first constitution of the Mexican Republic under which operated our present southwestern states, from Texas to California"--Howes. Another edition is dated 1824, and is only 28 pages. This edition also includes the earlier Acta Constitutiva, and an introductory publisher's note is dated 14 October 1824, but the frontispiece includes the territory of Tlaxcala, not formed until 24 November.
This copy collates with the Streeter copy, but the frontispiece is a different engraving with a similar design. It depicts the states and territories of the new republic as segments of a cactus, including Coahuila y Tejas, Alta California, and Nuevo Mexico. This version has a second cactus and a wreath instead of the Streeter copy's banner title, and the states are arranged differently. Both versions depict the same states as constituted from November 1824 to September 1830, making priority difficult to determine. Howes E197 (different edition); Palau 59642 (different edition); Sabin 48379 (lists this edition but without the Acta Constitutiva); Streeter sale I:211 (this edition but different frontispiece). WorldCat lists one copy with this collation.
