Partly printed Document Signed, signed on recto and verso "Manuel obispo de la Puebla" as Bishop of Puebla, also by others, with paper seal on recto, completed in manuscript to "Nicolas Diaz, Presbytero" of Orizaba. 2 pages, 17 1/4 x 12 1/4 inches; faint dampstaining, minimal worming, folds. Additional Details

Bishop Manuel Fernández de Santa Cruz (1637-1699) is best remembered as a friend and mentor to the pioneering author Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, and as a founder of presidios in the northern Mexico borderlands. The printed text on recto begins "Nos el obispo dean y cabildo de la Sancta Iglesia Cathedral de esta Ciudad de la Puebla de los Angeles." On verso it reads "Nos el Doctor Don Manuel Fernandez de Sancta Cruz." It does not appear in Medina's Puebla, in OCLC, or at auction.
