Additional Details

The Alphadelphia Association was a utopian community in Comstock, MI which followed the communal principles of Charles Fourier. It began in 1844, reached about 300 members, but disbanded in 1848. This pamphlet includes a 3-page history of the commune's founding, its 7-page constitution, and 4 pages of "Concluding Remarks": "This cause will move forward, until it shall have banished vice and all its consequences, i.e. misery and want, from our land." The remarks are signed in type by the group's president H.R. Schetterly. One copy in OCLC, at the University of Michigan; none others traced at auction or elsewhere. With a folder of related research correspondence.
