The 9th United States Cavalry was one of 4 segregated "Buffalo Soldier" regiments stationed in the west during the era of the Indian Wars. Includes:

Matching discharges and final statements for three privates in the 9th Cavalry: James Hughes, William Seward, and James White, all dated September 1874. The soldiers were each discharged from Las Rusias or Ringgold Barracks in Texas. We learn where they went upon discharge (Philadelphia, Louisville, and Baltimore respectively), how long the trip took, and their birthplace, height and age. They each sign by mark.

Also included are a pay document for Lieutenant L.N. Rucker, September 1874; and an 1866 receipt.
