Additional Details

All of the documents come from Captain A. F. Kliese, of the 17th U.S. Colored Infantry, though many bear the signature of other officers. The 17th was organized in Tennessee in the Fall of 1863. These documents record the doings of the quartermaster toward the end of the war and in the early days of 1866 when the quartermaster's base was dismantled. The Infantry's stores, as well as their buildings, were sold at public auction, the records of which are included here.
