"10th Cavalrymen who were captured at the Battle of Carrizal, released by Mexico," photographed by W.H. Horne Co., El Paso, TX. The 21 June 1916 Battle of Carrizal was the final battle in the American expedition to capture Pancho Villa in Mexico. 24 "Buffalo Soldiers" were captured by the Mexican Army, shown here after their release.
"9th Cav., 50th anniversary, July 28 1917, P.I." The 9th United States Cavalry, another one of the Buffalo Soldier regiments, was mustered into service in 1867. They are here shown celebrating in what appears to be Plains Indians traditional garb while stationed far across the Pacific in the Philippine Islands.
