Discharge certificate for Theodore Lyons, private in Captain William McGrath's Company D of the 3rd Regiment of Colored Volunteers. Lyons enlisted on 07 December 1864 for 3 years of services. His discharge came with the closure of the war. The 3rd Colored Volunteeers was raised on Hilton Head Island in 1863 after the fall of Beaufort and the surrounding South Carolina coast.
