George Green died in hospital in Brownsville, Texas in 1866. His regiment was the first to enter Richmond in April 1865. His widow here applies for compensation as per General Orders, No. 31 which gave the heirs of Black soldiers the sum of $100. After depositions of witnesses to her marriage, and other forms of verification, widow Green was granted her $100.
