Two sepia-toned photographs, one a portrait, the other a group shot of soldiers from the 10th Cavalry, "Buffalo soldiers" while at Fort Ethan Allen ,with Ellis in the center; 5x7 and 5x3 1/2 inches respectively; chips to mounts, images clean. Additional Details

The U. S. Army's Tenth Cavalry Regiment of African American soldiers, nicknamed the Buffalo Soldiers, were stationed at Fort Ethan Allen from 1909-13. A macabre story is attached to the group photograph. A note on the mount states that one soldier accidentally shot another. "Shot by Andrew J. Jackson from Montgomery Ala." On the verso is another note naming all the soldiers and noting that "Baker accidentally shot by A.J. Jackson, July, 1910."
