Additional Details

A letter from Faythe McGuiness, Tuskegee Airman to his old friend Herbert Hibler, encouraging him and other friends to come to Tuskegee. McGuiness says: "I like this branch of service fine and hope that you will like yours for we are closely connected, that is in aviation. Work hard and try and learn well and I will do the same, for my life may some day depend on your work. And who knows, I might be able to save your life, smile." With this is a later group of papers, dated May 1945 giving clearance to Hibler to be part of the Tuskegee Airmen in "Aeonautical Maintenance." McGuiness was a member of the original 99th Pursuit Squadron. He was killed in a freak accident at the base.
