An Autograph Signed copy of Boker's poem "The Black Regiment (Port Hudson, May 27, 1863)" together with an Autograph Note Signed, presenting the poem to Mrs. Viela. Written out on a long folio sheet of paper, folded to form four 4to pages, written on two, and affixed to a larger piece of heavy stock, extracted from an autograph album; remnants of material from the album on the reverse. Both the note and the poem are written on Boker's St. Petersburg Stationary. St Petersburg, Russia, September 14, 1877

George Henry Boker, poet, playwright and diplomat, writes to a Mrs. Viela in reply for her request for an autograph copy of his poetic memorial to the first black regiment to see action in the Civil War, the 3rd Louisiana Native Guards.
