(MILITARY--CIVIL WAR.) CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA. Manuscript appraisal of 38 slaves, with their names, owners' names and individual value, for use in the defense of Richmond. Folio leaf, folded to form four pages, written on three sides and docketed on the fourth. Richmond, 1862

Additional Details

"Valuation of slaves sent to Richmond on 4 day of November, 1862 under requisition of the governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia to be delivered to the authorities of the Confederate Authority for labor on the fortifications near Richmond for a term not exceeding 60 days." An unusually detailed list, essentially a "life insurance policy." Each owner would have received a similar individual document.
