Additional Details

A last ditch measure of the Confederacy to "draft" slaves from the various plantations of the Gulf states for use in the military. This blank form, would have been used to appoint an "agent" to draft slaves. On it are thirteen clauses and conditions under which the slaves would be held by the military. While we have seen numerous documents issued to slaveholders for the use of their slaves by the military, this is the first we have seen authorizing an agent to round them up.
