Additional Details

Following Lincoln's assassination, Jefferson Davis with a handful of faithful advisors fled Richmond, fearful that he would be killed in retribution. When Union troops were actually upon them, he threw one of his wife's overcoats over his shoulders and made for a local creek, giving rise to the rumor that he was captured in women's clothes.
