Additional Details

a very rare racist broadside poem. written in dialect, in reaction to Charles Sumner's speech to the Republican State Convention in Worcester, MA. on October 1st of 1861, where he suggested the slaves be freed and then armed. This was met with shock and derision in both the South and the North. It took almost two years and the fear that the war might not be so easily won, to actually begin the use of colored troops. OCLC locates seven copies. Library Company American Song Sheets, C117.
