Additional Details

The photographs depict an African-American seaman at left, and soldier at right--the soldier wearing the distinctive high collar and puttee leg coverings of the World War One era. Neither man is identified. Perhaps these two young men were brothers, and this case was owned by their family. More likely, this was a sample case, carried by a traveling photograph salesman who was targeting the African-American market.
