inscribed and signed first [and only] edition of this rare "diary," kept by the butler to the president of the Cumberland Valley Railroad. From chapter one: "On Friday, October 5th, 1917, President M.C. Kennedy, President of the Cumberland Valley Railroad sent for me to come to his office and said 'Roy, I am going to France; I am sorry I cannot take you along, but when I get over there, if I find a place for you, do you want to come?'"-- And he did, but he was only able to after a lot of "string-pulling" by the powerful Mr. Kennedy, now Major Kennedy. It was not at all common practice for white officers to take their butlers to war with them. No copies located by OCLC.
