The first pamphlet was issued after a devasting January 1874 fire that destroyed the collection of the Historical Society (which had been formed in 1865), including a nearly complete run of territorial newspapers. The 8-page pamphlet, describes the importance of the region, the types of material it seeks to collect and asks for donations. The terminal leaf is a listing of the officers of the Society, including Granville Stuart. The second pamphlet in this lot is the first library catalogue issued by the Society -- which includes several Montana rarities.
