Additional Details

The "Argentina" began her sailing life as the "Pennsylvania" in the fleet of the Panama-Pacific Lines. She went into service in 1938 for the Moore-McCormack Lines, serving under the flag of the American Republic Line (a subsidiary company). She was a troopship during the war. She originally had two smokestacks which were replaced with a single funnel when she was reconditioned after the war. She retired from service in 1958 when a new "Argentina" entered the fleet. Her sisters were the "Brazil" and "Uruguay," and the trio is remembered as the "Good Neighbor" fleet.
