Additional Details

the first history of illinois, never reprinted, but this volume may be most noteworthy for its treatment of the Illinois Mormon settlement in Chapter 20, pages 386-403, and its appendix dealing with the death of Joseph Smith, pages 487-492. As the Mormons had arrived at Nauvoo only in 1840, this was more in the realm of current events than history. Brown adds in a note that he "had a little acquaintance with 'the prophet'" and offers impressions on his personality and manners. Flake 896, Howes B839, Sabin 8484.
