Additional Details

rare first edition of the nauvoo hymnal. Emma Smith first published a selection of hymns in the June 1832 issue of The Evening and the Morning Star. The Kirtland Hymnal, her first book-length collection, was published in 1835 and contains 90 hymns. The Nauvoo hymnbook, Emma Smith's second compilation, is much enlarged, containing 303 songs, including 10 of Mormon authorship which appeared here for the first time. Although the High Council initially ordered that 10,000 copies be printed, Crawley suggests that the actual number was far fewer. we could locate no copies of this edition of the mormon hymnal appearing at auction in the last century.
