Additional Details

Second edition--the first to list Joseph Smith as translator rather than author, and the first printed within the faith. It was extensively revised from the first edition after comparison with the original manuscript. More than 3000 changes have been noted from the first edition, all of them carried forward into future editions. Crawley 35; Flake 596; Sabin 83039.
Provenance: The book has no provenance markings, but was inherited by the consignor from Joel E. Ferris (1874-1960). He may have in turn inherited it from his father Hiram Gano Ferris (1822-1893) or grandfather Stephen Gano Ferris (1788-1876). They were both gentiles who lived in Carthage, IL in the 1840s, contemporary with the Mormon settlement in nearby Nauvoo.
