Winchester was a controversial member of the early church; he was excommunicated the following year, joined the Rigdonites, and left them a year later. Crawley calls this treatise "another step in the development of Mormon apologetics" and describes the wrappers as tan stiff paper; this copy is in blue. Crawley 183; Flake 9940; none known at auction since 1985. Provenance: original owner Alexander Jones; Park-Bernet's Dwight L. Smith sale, 16 January 1963, lot 294, to the consignor.
