Additional Details

first edition of the first attempt to set down the music of african-american slaves. Allen, Charles Pickard Ware and and Lucy McKim Garrison, niece of Wiliam Lloyd Garrison literally took live music "dictation" from slaves in the fields, churches, etc. to make this compilation. It remains the best original resource for an accurate idea of what the music of the African-American slave sounded like.
