warmly inscribed to the famous comedienne, jackie "moms" mably. The photograph shows Armstrong standing in front of a fireplace over which hangs a large mirror, on which he has written his sentiment. Jackie "Moms" Mabley, born Loretta Mary Aiken (1894-1975), was an American standup comedienne and a pioneer of the so-called "Chitlin' Circuit" of African-American vaudeville. One of twenty children of a family in Brevard, North Carolina, Mably was known for her hilarious off-color routines.
