Additional Details

Almost all of these photographs are individual portraits of jazz musicians in action taken at Boston's Jazz Workshop and Lennie's on the Turnpike in Peabody, MA. Miles Davis is featured in three photographs: two while playing trumpet on stage, and one candid snapshot while standing near the club's coat check, probably during either his 17 or 18 October 1969 dates at the Jazz Workshop. Other featured performers include trumpeter Freddie Hubbard (4); sax players Pharoah Sanders (3); bassists Milt "The Judge" Hinton (shot in performance at a church in Queens, NY), Buster Williams, and Cecil McBee; organist Charles Earland (3); and drummers Jack DeJohnette and Lenny White.
At the time, the photographer was on active duty as a captain at nearby Hanscom Air Force Base. He also an exhibited painter, and a member of the Long Island Black Artist Association.
