first edition, one of 500 numbered copies. An extraordinary compilation, which includes a history of the earliest roots of jazz in New Orleans. Lists virtually every jazz recording known at that time. Sections include: "King Oliver et son Orchestre," "Cook's Dreamland Orchestra," "Sidney Bechet," et al. Jazz came to France via World War I and the black troopers of the 369th Infantry, the "Harlem Hell-fighters." Their band was led by James Reese Europe. Very scarce. France was occupied by the Nazis at the time of this printing.
