An advertisement for a performance at a dance hall in Collinsville, IL, just east of St. Louis. Jimmy Powell was a regular performer in the St. Louis area from 1925 to 1937, with orchestras under various names such as Powell's Jazz Monarchs, Jimmy Powell and his Colored Harlem Steppers, and Jimmy Powell's 9-Piece Colored Orchestra. He predated the saxophonist Jimmy Powell (1914-1994) who went on to play with Billie Holliday and Miles Davis in the 1940s. The poster was produced by Bower Show Print of Fowler, IN.
