Additional Details

Lincoln Center opened as New York City's performance arts destination in 1962. Its Philharmonic Hall (later Avery Fisher Hall and now David Geffen Hall) featured, almost from the beginning, many landmark performances by African Americans such as Miles Davis and the Supremes. This double poster advertises a late-career performance by gospel great Mahalia Jackson. The artist Milton Glaser remains a renowned graphic designer, most famous for his I Love New York logo and his Bob Dylan concert posters.
