Additional Details
Thirty-three original masters of Billie Holiday classics that include "Willow Weep for Me," "God Bless the Child," "Porgy," and "They Can't Take that Away from Me." At least one of these sessions was made with the Teddy Wilson Orchestra. Other songs seem to be from other sessions, possibly recorded at different times. 1956 was a busy year for Holiday. Her autobiography "Lady Sings the Blues" had just been released following a hugely succesful concert at Carnegie Hall, as well as a West Coast tour. Pieces of the Mike Wallace interview are often shown on television whenever Billie Holiday's life comes up. We have no original source for these records. They have been in the collections of two private individuals over the past fifty-four years, and probably originated with the now defunct Dumont Television, which broadcast out of New York City.
