Additional Details

Band concerts were very popular all over the country in the latter part of the 19th century and into the early part of the 20th. The Colonial Band is pictured in uniform, and was the official band of the local Knights of Pithias. The sign states that they were all members of the American Federation of Musicians, an early union formed in 1896. This performance was apparently quite an event; the sign advises that there were "Special Cars (railroad) Leaving Washington for Pittsburgh at 1:30 AM."
