Additional Details

We found a record of an "Old Dominion Slave Troupe" performing in the Mid-West in 1877. The broadside states that the troupe was organized in 1871 in Charleston. In addition to the songs of the Troupe, other artists included "The Black Diamonds," whose act "abounds in wonderful tambourine, bone and guitar solos, beautiful plantation melodies and refrains that produce a correct portrait of life in the sunny south before the war."
