Additional Details

Rutgers' 1919 year book with multiple appearances of Paul Robeson (1898-1976) as a varsity football, baseball, basketball, track and debating team star. Sadly, Robeson is remembered by most Americans through the controversy that was imposed on him by the shameful period of Senator Joe McCarthy and his House Un-American Activities Committee and the witch-hunts of the early 1950's. Robeson was a tremendously gifted actor, singer, civil rights advocate and polyglot, who spoke at least a dozen languages.
