Additional Details

Chester Sheard (1930-2015) was an African-American photographer who spent much of his life in Wisconsin, but was best known for his work in Chicago's civil rights and music scene from the 1960s to the 1980s. This image of guitarist B.B. King was used on the cover of the 1971 album "Live in Cook County Jail," where it became one of the most recognizable images in blues. Chester Burnett, better known as Howlin' Wolf, is shown playing harmonica not long before his 1976 death. Purchased by the consignor from the photographer in the late 1980s.
