Additional Details

The Hutchinson Family Singers were the most popular singing group of the 1840's and 50's, active advocates of abolition, as well as workers' rights and women's rights. The Hutchinsons sang in four-part harmony, something which was relatively new to American audiences, accustomed to unison singing.
