Additional Details

A compendium of more than 100 melodies, a few of them arranged for two clarinets. Patriotic highlights include "The Star Spangled Banner" on the first page (for the flute), "Washington's Grand March" (page 10), "Hail Columbia" (pages 3 and 24), "Yankee Doodle" (pages 3 and 25) and "La Fayette's Welcome to the United States" (page 43). Popular songs include "Auld Lang Syne" (page 22), "Home Sweet Home" (page 39) and Stephen Foster's "Old Dog Trey," here credited to Christy's Minstrels (page 50). The latter first appeared in 1853; it seems possible that parts of the volume were compiled earlier in the 19th century.
