Additional Details

William Henry "Chick" Webb (1905-1939) was a jazz drummer and orchestra leader who was considered by his contemporaries to be an exceptional talent. His band was more or less the "house" band at Harlem's Savoy Ballroom, and Webb and his wife virtually adopted Ella Fitzgerald who lived with them for a time. Sadly Webb became ill in 1938 and after a year of declining health passed away. His reported last words were "Sorry I've go to go."
