Additional Details

A wonderful group photograph, featuring the two 'brothers' seated amid their entire troupe, plus children, in a glorious group photograph of their extended family. Salem Tutt Whitney (1869-1934) and his half-brother J. Homer Tutt (1882—1951) were quite famous in the last quarter of the 19th century for their traveling show titled 'Silas Green from New Orleans.' Around 1910 they then formed another troupe called 'The Smart Set Company,' which was active through around 1925. One of their musicals, titled 'Oh Joy,' starred Ethel Waters, the Black Swann label's recording star.
