An extraordinary copy of a program for a famous all black theatre company and the play they were best known for. Out of Bondage was written and performed by Lucas and the Troupe. Sam Lucas (born Milady 1840-1916) was the most famous minstrel player of his day. While he was alive, there was no-one who could pack a hall like Lucas. He was not only the most celebrated performer, he was a genius song writer. Beginning in 1876, Lucas toured with the noted Hyers Sisters, also celebrated actors and singers. "Out of Bondage" is the work they are best remembered for.
