A haunting rendering of the lunar surface made all the more mysterious by the appearance of the lower portion of the man-made lunar probe. The Surveyor missions, 7 in all, were launched from June 1966--January 1969. They were primarily designed to map the moon's terrain to find suitable landing sites for the Apollo program <
