Additional Details

first american edition, second issue, following an 1831 Philadelphia printing from the same setting of type. The text Audubon issued to accompany his folio Birds of America. The primary edition was released in Edinburgh (above), but this one volume was released in a small Philadelphia edition of 500, mainly to secure American copyright. This explains the rarity of the American edition, and the poor quality of the paper. The first volume is often found alone. Volume II followed in Boston in 1835, and the set was completed with three final volumes of the Edinburgh edition. Howes A389; Sabin 2366.
