Folio, 475x325 mm, modern crushed morocco; lacking the title-page, scattered foxing and some damp-staining, both of which are generally retstricted to the margins, several plates with dampstaining just entering the image - could be successfully cleaned and freshened. The German and Latin edition after the English and French of 1771. An unusually complete copy of this classic on American natural history. This copy lacking the title-page and plates 38 and 39 (both showing turtles). Plates 80-100 have plate numbers but are uncaptioned. Scattered text leaves and plates with small embossed owner's stamp, in the margins on all leaves excepting on one plate where it enters the platemark. Nissen ZBI 846.
